Privacy policy
What 9NTY stores, why we store it, who can see it, and how to delete it. Plain English, no surprises.
We don't sell or share your data with advertisers. Ever.
One essential cookie to keep you signed in. Nothing else.
Delete your account from the account page in one step.
01 The short version
- You can read all of 9NTY without an account.
- If you join, we store only what's needed to run your account and the community.
- Your email is private. Your password is stored so that nobody, including us, can read it.
- No advertising or tracking cookies, and no selling data.
- You can delete your account and its data at any time.
02 What we store
| Data | Why | Who sees it |
|---|---|---|
| Username, display name, bio | Your profile | Everyone |
| Profile picture and banner | Your profile. Re-saved on upload, which removes hidden data such as where a photo was taken. | Everyone |
| Optional Fortnite name, location, links | Shown only if you choose | Everyone, if switched on |
| Email address | Sign-in, password resets, confirming your account | Only you |
| Password | Signing in. Stored as a one-way hash. | Nobody |
| Join date, last sign-in, failed sign-in count | Protecting your account | Only you (and staff for security) |
| Posts, threads, reputation, awards | The community | Everyone |
| Saved items, follows, reading history | Your "Saved & following" page. History can be switched off. | Only you |
03 What other members can see
Your public profile at 9ntyapi.com/username shows your display name, picture, banner, bio, join date, posts, reputation and awards. Your email address is never shown. You can hide yourself from the member directory in your account settings.
"Who is online" shows signed-in members who were active in the last 15 minutes. It's kept in memory only and never saved.
04 Private messages
Private messages are stored so you and the other person can read them. Moderators can't browse them. They only see a message if one of you reports it, and the report includes a copy of the last few messages. "Delete for me" hides a conversation for you only. Deleting your account removes all your conversations.
05 Passwords and two-factor sign-in
Passwords are stored as a one-way hash. If you turn on two-factor sign-in, we store the secret for your authenticator app and your backup codes, the backup codes as one-way hashes. Changing your password signs out every other device.
06 Cookies
We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in and to protect forms from forgery. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, so there's no cookie banner. Your light or dark mode choice, and whether you closed the announcement banner, are kept in your own browser only.
07 Visit statistics
To see which pages are useful, we count page views without cookies and without storing IP addresses. For each view we keep the day, the page, the website you came from (for example x.com), what you searched for on our site, and whether it was a phone.
To count visitors once per day, we use a scrambled code made from your connection and browser with a secret that's replaced every day, so we can't recognise you on another day. These records are deleted after 90 days.
08 Who handles your data
The site runs on our own server in the EU, hosted by Hetzner. Traffic passes through Cloudflare for security and speed, which sees visitors' IP addresses like any network provider. Emails such as password resets are sent through our email provider. We don't use any advertising or analytics companies.
09 How long we keep it
- Your account: until you delete it.
- Visit statistics: 90 days.
- "Who is online": 15 minutes, in memory only.
- Server backups: a deleted account can stay in encrypted backups for a short time until they're replaced.
10 Your rights
You can change your profile or password, sign out of every device, or delete your account at any time from Account information. Deleting removes your account data from our database straight away.
Under UK GDPR you can also ask for a copy of your data, or for something to be corrected. Message us on X (@9nty_official).
11 Age
You must be 13 or older to create an account.
12 Changes to this policy
If we change what we store or how we use it, we'll update this page and the date at the top, and tell members in a site notice for important changes.
